Hervey Bay's beautiful, one-bedroom retreat as temporary accommodation for missionaries.
Location:
Our property is a 6 min drive to the Hervey Bay Airport which offers direct flights to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. As well as flight to Lady Elliot Island. Of course, we also enjoy a gateway to Fraser Island and the whale watching season – Jul – Oct.
Hervey Bay is approximately a 3 – 3.5hr drive from Brisbane Airport and only 2.5hr drive to the Sunshine Coast if your heart's desire is a little more action.
Hervey Bay seems to have just about every denomination of church, so you should be able to find a place to call home while you are here.
Accommodation:
Pond View is a lovely one-bedroom unit based in Hervey Bay. The entry to the 1-acre property is embraced by a hedge-lined sweeping driveway; It feels more like you are entering a parkland than a home as the property is shaded with Moreton Bay Figs, a glorious Leopard Tree, Jacarandas and native gums. Continuing with the feel of nature, the view from the aptly named Pond View is the pond.
Puddle Pot Pond is home for approximately 35 ducks, ibis, visiting cockatoos, corellas, rosella, cheeky butcher birds, gorgeous bluefaced honey eaters, waterfowl, kookaburra and we’ve even had the odd visit from the shy Spoonbill. The pond itself houses some turtles, eels and the odd non-toxic, non-venomous keelback snake. When you look out the wall of windows that overlook the pond and back half of the property, a sense of God’s amazing creation fills your senses.
Pond View itself is a little haven away from the hustle and bustle of the world. Set at the back of the property and away from neighbours, the only view is nature.
Comprising a huge bedroom with a king-sized bed (room to add single beds if needed).
A full wet-room bathroom with a luxurious rainwater shower head and separate wand.
A fully equipped kitchen – please note, there is no actual oven, but there is a 2-burner stove top, microwave, full fridge with freezer, dishwasher, and plenty of storage.
A two seater solid timber dining table overlooking the pool.
A snuggly 2.5 seater chaise lounge that faces a 55in smart TV with access to streaming services, that overlooks the pond.
Shared access to a huge deck, pool and laundry space.
Fast Wi-Fi with its own Wi-Fi enhancer.
Even though Pond View sits opposite the main house – separated by the huge deck – there is plenty of privacy within the unit. Block out curtains can close off from view of the house, without closing off the view to Puddle Pot Pond.
There is a separate access to the unit accessed via the pool enclosure.
Plenty of parking space.
Please note: Apart from John and Kerrilee, the other permanent residents are Jolly – a large black Groodle and Tokyo a pint-sized poodle x. Both hypoallergenic and very social.
We are 2.5km from the beautiful Torquay Beach and Esplanade, 5.5km from the main shopping centre, 5km to the Hervey Bay Hospital and medical precinct.
Esplanade has a wonderful variety of cafes, restaurants, boutiques and gift shops.
John and Kerrilee Burkhardt have lived in Hervey Bay for nearly 2 years. We were enticed here by our family who made the wise decision years ago. John is a business coach specialising in helping insurance brokers. Kerrilee is an author and YouTuber. She has written devotionals and is the author of the Needy McCreedy and Gently McBently Adventure Series. Kerrilee is a fourth generation Christian and has felt the touch of Jesus in her life from her very first memories. John has been walking hand in hand with Jesus for over 20 years. Our passion is sharing the love of Jesus through our work and our actions.
We have chosen to open our home to missionaries on home-assignment as this is our sanctuary and we want to share it with like-minded people. As the main house and Pond View are connected by the deck space, and this is basically our sitting room, we want to be able to share that with those who love the Lord. We want to respect the privacy of those who choose to stay with us, and they ours, but we would also love the opportunity to fellowship in this neutral space during their stay.
Our furbabies, are very much a part of our life, so they will come and go across the deck and as they are people puppies, they’d love to share a cuddle or two.
