JANE HARRIS

Jane Harris

Profession: counselling, psychological profiling and debriefing for mission agencies and Bible Colleges supervises

Professional Qualification: Diploma in counselling, a Bachelor of Ministries (Missions in Practice)from Laidlaw College where she later lectured. Jane then completed her Masters in Health Science through AUT, (thesis topic - the impact of compulsive pornography use by heterosexual males and attachment theory).Masters in Health Science through AUT, (thesis topic - the impact of compulsive pornography use by heterosexual males and attachment theory).

Cross Cultural Experience:Jane is a woman who has enjoyed a life of great variety and has a verve to continue doing so for many years to come. She is the mother of four now-adult children and one foster daughter and grandmother to seven. Currently, she does counselling, psychological profiling and debriefing for mission agencies and Bible Colleges supervises other clinicians and pastors and runs her own private practice for general counselling. Her husband shares the same concerns for mission and is qualified in the same areas. At the moment they are enjoying the blessing of living on a 5-acre block during lockdown!  Jane is available to help missions and missionaries at this time.

SARAH PIPER

SARAH PIPER

Sarah Piper is an experienced registered psychologist who has lived and worked in both remote and urban settings in Australia, as well as internationally in different cultures. Her background consists of child protection, humanitarian and development work, school counselling, and now private practice. She works with people of all ages with various presentations both on and off the field. As a strengths based and solution-focussed practitioner she applies evidence-based psychological strategies to enable people to live and function more fully. Sarah is approachable and authentic, taking great interest in both the personal and spiritual resources that people bring and how they might use these to move forward in their lives.

Cross Cultural Experience: Sarah has lived in both Balkan and Greek speaking countries, working in a humanitarian/development context plus raising a family of young children. From her 4yr Greek experience, she is also familiar with the nearby Turkish and Middle Eastern cultures. She was involved with victims of trafficking in Cyprus and also participated fully in the life of the local churches where she lived. In private practice, Sarah works with people from many different cultures, most commonly Asian backgrounds. She counsels both adults and children via Skype on the Mission Field when needed. Her experiences of transitioning O.S. and re-entry back home (both with and without children) has enabled a thorough understanding of the many issues involved.

Cross Cultural Experience: Greg is involve in the psychological assessment of candidates for mission for a number of different organisations. As part of this work, he is often involved in debriefing or consulting during difficult situations. His organisation, The Mindspace, has also provided training for mission organisations around issues of burnout, mental health, assessment and interviews, and TCK issues.

Cross Cultural Experience: Valerie Ling is part of "Centre For Effective Living" that has links to CMS. She has been working on missions debriefs and training for the last few years. She has worked and lived overseas in a parish ministry, thus makes her familiar with the South East Asian Culture.

DR GRANT BICKERTON

Professional Qualification: Member of the Australian Psychological Society, Masters of Counselling psychology, and PhD in Psychology

Cross Cultural Experience: Dr Grant Bickerton is a counselling psychologist who also has 15 years experience as a missionary in Australia and overseas. Grant’s research expertise concerns the psychological and spiritual variables that reduce work stress and promote well-being among Christian missionaries. He conducts psychological assessments for missionary candidates and personal counselling therapy. He is also familiar in the Middle Eastern and South East Asian culture. He is a psychologist (Member of the Australian Psychological Society, Masters of Counselling Psychology, and PhD in Psychology) who offers services of psychological assessments for ministry candidates, psychological debriefing for missionaries back on furlough or upon their return, as well as some psychological counselling for missionaries as required. He offers these services in face to face and video-conferencing modalities.
