ATTRITION STUDY RESEARCH REPORT 2019

Fourteen mission agencies originally confirmed intent in participation; eleven agencies ended up providing data. As we built the study, we sought to gain not only data on attrition numbers, but also to garner reasoning behind the missionaries’ transition from the organization. When we interacted with the agencies, we discovered a wide range of systems for analyzing attrition. Some had very basic human resource practices for documenting separation, while others had more robust systems to seek information from the field, home office, and the worker on why the transition was taking place. We sought to provide a tool for data collection that would allow those without a system to create one and for those with a more mature data set to be able to transfer information easily.

MISSIONARY TAX GUIDE

Australian tax and superannuation systems generally work on a self-assessment model. Under the self-assessment system, the onus of responsibility for determining tax liability falls upon the taxpayer and there is an expectation of a presumed level of knowledge of the taxation laws and how they are applied to determine taxable income. If errors are made penalties may apply.

We are pleased to announce that the Missionary Tax Guide (2023 edition), published by Business Lighthouse, is now available for purchase as an e-resource. A copy of the Guide’s Table of Contents can be found here.

ALDINGA BEACH RETREAT: A RESPITE MINISTRY

Escape to a peaceful sanctuary in South Australia, where pristine beaches and tranquillity abound. The Aldinga Beach Retreat was established in 2016 and has served hundreds of guests. It is exclusively open to Christian missionaries, ministers, and mission agencies, for purposes of rest, retreat, and rejuvenation.

As a ministry of Missions Interlink, stays are offered at a significantly reduced cost for missionaries, pastors, and Christian workers who are in need of retreat - only $50 per night. The retreat house volunteers, Ben and Robyn, have experience in debriefing and counselling. They can provide debriefing or counselling upon request, or help connect guests with other Christian counsellors, psychologists or spiritual directors in the local area.
